We offer specialized consultations for senior pets, focusing on quality of life and long-term planning. These appointments are thorough, typically lasting 45 to 60 minutes, and begin with a comprehensive review of all past medical records and a detailed conversation with you. Dr. Smith has a strong personal focus on geriatric and palliative care and finds deep fulfillment in helping families navigate this stage of their pet’s life with clarity and compassion.

Palliative (Comfort Care) Approach

When the goal is no longer to find a diagnosis but to ensure comfort, we shift to palliative care. This involves managing symptoms such as pain, nausea, and poor appetite to maintain the best possible quality of life for as long as possible. When referral or advanced treatment is no longer appropriate, our focus remains on comfort, pain control, and supporting both you and your pet through this stage. Follow-up for these patients is often managed through email or phone calls to make adjustments to their care plan as needed.

Diagnostic Approach

If you wish to investigate your pet’s condition further, we will discuss and recommend appropriate diagnostics, such as blood work or a referral for imaging.

Financial Policy

We are committed to financial transparency and open communication about the costs of veterinary care. For new puppies and kittens, we will provide you with a clear list of our recommendations and their associated costs.

We strongly believe in the long-term health benefits of our recommendations. However, we understand that finances can be a concern. We will always work with you to develop an alternative plan that fits your budget.

You will never be sent to a referral or emergency clinic without a realistic estimate of the potential costs you may face there.

If a critical pet requires care that is not financially feasible, we will openly discuss humane euthanasia as a compassionate and much lower-cost alternative.

Please note that payment is typically expected at the time of service and we accept CareCredit, credit cards and checks. You can learn more or apply for financing through CareCredit.
