Dr. Jerry Smith DVM

Jerry Smith, DVM

Veterinarian Owner

Dr. Jerry Smith’s path to veterinary medicine was unconventional. He began his career in the U. S. Navy, serving for nearly 10 years as a nuclear-trained electrician on submarines before being honorably discharged. He then returned to his passion for animal care, earning a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Connecticut and graduating from Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004.

After spending 15 years in the demanding field of emergency medicine, Dr. Smith shifted his focus to a more personal, community-oriented approach to practice. He and his wife, Amy, had long loved visiting the Finger Lakes and decided to establish their roots here. Dr. Smith opened Smith Veterinary Service in Hammondsport with a simple philosophy: “How can we help?”

Dr. Smith is dedicated to being a resource for the community and providing compassionate care. When not at the clinic, he enjoys life in Wayne with Amy and their three Border Collies. He also unwinds by playing the guitar and often performs in the tasting rooms and bars in the area.

Carla Luta

Carla brings years of legal and business office experience and stepped into the hospital manager role with comfort, compassion, and enthusiasm—no veterinary background required. A lifelong local, she either knows everyone, knows someone who knows them, or is somehow related. When she’s not keeping the hospital running smoothly, she’s managing a lively household that includes two large dogs (Red and Ranger), two toddlers, a teenager, and a fisherman husband.

Elizabeth Moultrup

Elizabeth Moultrup

Licensed Veterinary Technician

Elizabeth Moultrup is a licensed veterinary technician at Smith Veterinary Service. She graduated from Alfred State College in 2024 and joined our team as a newly licensed technician, where she has been for a little over a year.

Elizabeth’s care for animals started long before becoming a licensed vet tech. She previously worked at a dog daycare and grew up on her family’s beef cattle farm, which has over 300 animals. Her professional interests include diagnostic and large animal medicine, especially working with cows and using ultrasound for pregnancy checks. She became a licensed veterinary technician to be an advocate for animals and to help both animals and their owners.

Outside of the clinic, Elizabeth’s hobbies include traveling, hunting, gardening, baking, and farming. She lives on the beef cattle farm and has two pets: a Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Peter, and a black and white polydactyl cat named Carbone.

Jessica Luppino

Jessica Luppino

CSR and Veterinary Assistant

Jessica is still deciding what she wants to be when she grows up, but for now she leads a large pack of Dobermans and hounds with confidence and flair. With vet tech school experience, a background in restaurant and bar management, and work as a realtor, she’s a master of multitasking. Her gruff exterior hides a genuinely kind heart, and her uncanny ability to handle very large dogs—despite her compact stature—often turns heads. After hours, she may be found wandering the woods with a hound (or two) by her side.
